PopPack’s “bubble in solder” technology arrives in France. This new, easy-to-open, patent-opening concept is marketed in Europe by FPC, Flexible Packaging Company. The brand, sold under license, was also presented for the first time on the stand of FPC at the CFIA last week in Rennes by its creator in person, William Perell. PopPack consists in introducing a bubble in the welding of flexible or semirigid films so that the consumer, whatever his age, has only to burst this bubble between two fingers to open his packaging and shoot the peelable film where appropriate. It works with individual doses, flexible squeeze bags, soft pockets, stick-packs for cheese snacks, sealed trays, etc.

It applies to a wide spectrum of products: liquid, pasty, semi-pasty, powdered, sausage, cheese, dairy products, etc. “Our goal is to ensure fun and easy to open packaging while being safe”, explains Cheryl Harrison, Marketing Manager of PopPack. Major brands have been interested in this invention but have waited for it to be patented and licensed worldwide to authorize it to adopt.

On flexible bags, the opening acts as a pouring spout. Another advantage is that the PopPack can close with the addition of a valve made in one piece with the same film. In this case, even the head down after opening, the packaging does not leak. PopPack can also work with zips, slides, adhesives or other complementary reclosing systems.

FPC is in charge of proposing this system under license to potentially interested food and non-food brands and making it known to machine manufacturers (vertical, horizontal, thermoforming) to encourage them to offer this option in their range. In almost all cases, it is enough for them to add a tooling at the level of the sealing iron. For the industrial user, nothing changes in terms of equipment. Not even its cadences. To date, Multivac, Mitsubishi Plastics, Flextrus (in Scandinavia) and others have collaborated in the development of the project.
